Magic Needle News August 1, 2011

It's August already and the year is more than half over. It feels like our summers here in SC get hotter and last longer every year. I hope you're all doing what you can to stay cool. For a lot of us, the garden chores are winding down and we can get back to the more relaxing things like quilting. Now, let's catch up on what's happening at Magic Needle.

A Word From Our President
Hot!Hot!Hot!
I'm guessing everyone has been staying indoors and working on all of their projects.  The trouble is I go from one thing to the other.  I found it's also a good time to relax and watch the free tutorials on You Tube.
Our Ice Cream social in August should be a great way to cool down for the summer.  Don't miss it! And be sure and bring all those finished projects!
Angela Faulkenberry, President

Last Meeting (July 14th)
There were only 9 members who attended the July meeting. If you missed it, you missed a good meeting and a delicious salad luncheon! Show & Tell was awesome! Here are some pictures to prove that staying indoors because of the heat can lead to getting some projects done.

Cherie completed 5 Dresden table toppers! This lady has been busy!

These are 4 of the ALS quilt tops I made. They were cut with the AccuQuilt Go.

Christine made this gorgeous red and green handbag.

This charm square bag was made by Alice.

Alice is also knitting socks!

Mary Lou is getting a head start on Fall with her Give Thanks turkey wall hanging.

Christmas in July
The combined Christmas in July with Piecemakers was very enjoyable! Some ladies actually WORKED on Christmas projects while a few of us just worked to catch up on some unfinished projects. We had a wonderful lunch at the White House and got a great price on some gorgeous fabric!

Ice Cream Social
Our next Magic Needle meeting will be August 11. Make plans to attend because we're having our "Ice Cream Social" on that date. The cost will be funded by the guild and a light sandwich lunch will be served. We've invited Piecemakers to join us. Invite someone special if you like!

Activities at the Senior Center
We're still meeting almost every Thursday morning around 10 a.m. If you haven't been in a while, we're encouraging you to come join us. We've been cutting up fabrics with the Go cutter for ALS quilts and working on whatever projects we want. Come and help with ALS quilts or bring your own project. It's a chance to get out of the house and socialize with friends! Take a look at the Show & Tell from last week at the center.

This is an ALS quilt top that Janet just made.

Alice is giving this to her grandson. Look below at the barn doors!

Pictures inside!

Here's another one by Alice. What little boy wouldn't like to sleep with  this??

Frayed Sew Group
We've missed a couple of months so getting together is long overdue! We'll be meeting at Janet's on August 13th at 10 a.m. Bring your show and tell and your ideas!
