2016 Quarterly Quilters' Retreat

Submitted by Debbie Burgess
My little Quarterly Quilters guild will be having our retreat April 16-23, 2016, at The Homeplace Bed & Breakfast (7096 Pageland Hwy, Lancaster, SC) and we're extending an invitation to members of the Magic Needle Guild to join us. There will be eight sewing machine stations open during this time, and they can be reserved for the entire week or split into two blocks of four days/three nights: April 17, 18, 19, 20 or April 20, 21, 22, 23. First come, first served, so make your plans and call, email, or text me to reserve your space. Preference will be given to Resident Retreaters staying at The Homeplace. (If you plan to do only hand work and won't need a sewing machine station, there will be plenty of space for you to work either in the event room or in the B&B, but you still need to make your reservation for the retreat and also at the B&B.) Please share this information with any members that you know won't receive this notification by email. Please contact me ASAP to reserve your space; due to expressed interest, I expect these spaces to fill quickly. All reservations should be made by June 1, 2015, but don't wait till the last minute if you want to join us for this fun retreat.

Retreat Options (Fee includes lodging with one roommate, breakfast, and registration!)
Full Retreat: April 16-23 (Arrival on the 16th at 1:00, departure on the 23rd by 11:00 a.m.)
Retreat Block A: April 17-20 (Arrival on the 17th at 1:00, departure on the 20th by 11:00 a.m.
Retreat Block B: April 20-23 (Arrival on the 20th at 1:00, departure on the 23rd by 11:00 a.m.
(If most choose one of the retreat blocks, then there will be sewing stations for 16 Magic Guild members and their friends. Contact me with your preference so you can be assured to get your choice of dates.)

Retreat Registration
$25 per person for the retreat, regardless of the time block chosen, to be paid to me with a check or cash. This is your deposit to reserve your space and, if you must cancel before March 16, 2016, I'll give you a refund. After that date, it is nonrefundable. First come, first served, and payment of your fee will guarantee your spot. Preference will be given first to resident retreaters staying at the Homeplace. Mail checks to Debbie Burgess, 5066 Rowell RD, Lancaster, SC 29720.)

Lodging Information for The Homeplace B&B
$60/room/night for 2 people ($30 per person), includes breakfast
$15/night for each extra person in room; includes breakfast
Resident Retreaters are responsible for making their own room reservations and payment is due to the Homeplace B&B upon checkout. (Mrs. Catoe has a generous cancellation policy...she just asks that you let her know as soon as you find you cannot come to stay.)
One person per room is responsible for making the reservation and also for paying the total bill at checkout. For example, if there are three people sharing a room, only one person is designated to pay the bill and the other two settle up with her.

***Due to the popularity of The Homeplace B&B, reservations should be made as soon as possible to make sure you get a room. *** Call Mrs. Dianne Catoe at 803-285-7773 to reserve your choice of room. You must let her know how many will be sharing your room at the time you make your reservation because some rooms sleep more than others, and she has a limited number of roll-away cots.

Meals
Breakfast: Included for the Resident Retreaters at the Homeplace.
Lunch: Everyone brings lunch foods to contribute to this meal. Bread, cold cuts, cheese, chips, fresh fruit, cookies, cakes, etc., are some examples of foods for sharing at lunch.
Supper: Each retreater is responsible for participating in the planning, preparation, and clean up of one supper meal during their stay, and I'll issue a sign up sheet closer to the retreat. We have a large commercial kitchen to use that is attached to the event room, and you can bring food from home or shop at the very nice Bi-Lo store in Pageland, which is just a 15 minute drive from The Homeplace.

FacilitiesSewing Stations: Fourteen 8-foot rectangular tables (one person/table), electric outlet for each table (bring power strip), padded chair (like in doctor's office), each table is located at large window
Ironing Stations: three, and your table is large enough that you can bring your own pressing board/iron if you like
Cutting Stations: Two oversized tables on risers, fits four large cutting mats
Layout/Design Tables: One large design table for laying out blocks.
Designated Dining Area: Round tables adjacent to kitchen away from sewing area.

BIRTHDAY LUNCHEON

Magic Needle will celebrate our annual birthday anniversary with a birthday luncheon on May 14th, 2015. Our wonderful cook, Jo Hinson, will be preparing a delicious lunch. Please RSVP by May 1st (?) if you'll be attending so Jo will know how much food to prepare. (Please pardon the brain fog. I'm unsure of the exact date). Jo's without email at the moment so please RSVP to me and I will pass it along to Jo.

This is our regular guild meeting day and lunch will follow our meeting. Please remember that yearly dues are due at the May meeting. Membership is $20 annually unless you are joining or renewing a membership with Piecemakers Guild as well. Membership will then be $10 payable separately to each guild.

ART OF KALEIDOSCOPE

The "Art of Kaleidoscope" (originally Waxhaw Springfest) in Waxhaw NC is scheduled for May 16th and 17th, 2015. The festival will feature a quilt show by our very own EDNA DRAKEFORD.
Hours are Saturday, 10-5 and Sunday 12-4. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend at least one of these days for a day of fun and local art.
